Digital tracking pilot explores clearer shipment information

A cross-industry pilot is testing how shared digital milestones can improve visibility without weakening security or accountability.

Better visibility through carefully governed data

A new pilot will examine whether a small set of shared digital milestones can give authorised partners clearer visibility of specialist shipments. The project focuses on information that supports coordination, such as confirmed handovers and arrival windows, while preserving strict access controls.

Operational teams will help design the workflow before any technology is selected. That approach is intended to prevent a familiar problem: digitising a process without first resolving unclear responsibilities. The pilot will measure data quality, user effort, response to exceptions, and whether the information leads to faster, better decisions.

Useful visibility comes from trusted information and clear ownership, not from collecting the largest possible volume of data.
